The model you want could be on Thingiverse, or Printables, or a museum archive, and checking each one by hand is a waste of a good print night. Meshhound searches every site in its index at once and takes you straight to the original.
The tab-juggling problem
Anyone who prints regularly knows the routine: search Thingiverse, find nothing quite right, open Printables and search again, then maybe MakerWorld, then a museum's open-access site, then back to a search engine to see what you missed. The same query, typed five times, across five sites that don't talk to each other.
A 3D-model meta-search engine exists to collapse that into one search box. Instead of visiting each site, you search an index that already spans all of them.
How meta-search works
Meshhound isn't a model host. It doesn't store or re-upload anyone's files. Three things happen behind the search box:
- It indexes listings from each source, using an official API where one exists or a polite, rules-respecting crawl where the site permits it.
- It de-duplicates. Creators often post the same design to several sites; Meshhound recognises those and merges them into a single result with a badge showing every site it's on, so you're not scrolling past the same model five times.
- It links out. Click a result and you land on the original page (Thingiverse, Printables, Cults3D, NASA, wherever it came from) to download from the source.

Yeggi and other keyword aggregators are well-established and index a huge number of listings. This is a comparison of approach, not a knock on any specific tool. The point is simply that merging duplicates and reaching public-domain institutional archives are where a single search saves you the most time.
